Water should not touch your eyes for at least 7 days after LASIK. This includes tap water, shower water, swimming pools, sea water, and even clean bottled water — all carry bacteria that can infect the healing cornea.

- No water in eyes for 7 days after LASIK (any type of water)
- Swimming pool water: avoid for minimum 4 weeks
- Sea / river / lake water: avoid for 6 weeks (high bacteria risk)
- If water accidentally enters the eye, use prescribed drops immediately
- Tears (your own) are safe and natural — do not prevent crying
Guidelines & Tips
- Wear protective goggles when doing any activity near water in week 1
- Tilt head back fully when showering to keep eyes away from water
- Use a dry eye mask / goggles at night if you sleep near an open window in rain
- If water splashes in — do NOT rub, immediately instil lubricating drops
- After 1 week, tap water brief contact is lower risk but avoid rubbing
- Consult your surgeon before resuming any water sports
